Before we “dive in”, check out the epic new trailer for Avatar 2: The Way of Water below: During James Cameron’s speech at Digital Day, completed scenes from the film were shown. Writer/director Liam O’Donnell took to Twitter to discuss what he had seen, saying the following: “AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER appears to be the most insanely complicated movie ever made. Holy s**t. James Cameron’s Digital Day keynote just broke brain.”

He went on to talk about the underwater performances in the movie: “*my brain! Just the amount of data they captured… Underwater performance capture with 15 cameras. 2 cams on every actor’s face capture. Underwater reference capture for fully CG creatures. Oh yeah and infrared depth capture to place CG characters in the live action footage”

Clearly excited by what he had seen, O’Donnell continues at great length with a series of follow-up tweets, describing the film as “the edible movie of the decade” and praising the cast and crew for the intense underwater scenes. He also discussed Stephen Lang’s return as a Na’vi, saying that the “new Avatar-Quaritch and his conflict and journey sounds f***ing awesome”, while warning audiences not to “bet against [James] Cameron”.
