Variety reportedly revealed that the untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender movie is coming October 10, 2025, which will be produced by Nickelodeon Animation, Paramount Animation and Avatar Studios, and another project with an untitled Spongebob movie slated for a May 23, 2025 release.
Avatar: The Last Airbender was co-created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino and first premiered on Nickelodeon on February 21, 2005. The upcoming animated film is set to expand the world of Avatar, possibly the embarking of Aang and the others as young adults after defeating the Fire Lord Ozai.
As for news on the live-action film, since its plot details are also being kept under wraps, then we are certainly expected to still follow the story of Aang as he sets off to end the dangerous war with the Fire Nation by training to master the four elements of air, fire, water, and earth, as he is the nation’s last hope for being ‘the last airbender.’
One of the key problems that the first live-action movie the show faced was its lack of accuracy in adhering to the show’s plot and execution, especially for ‘white-washing’ the cast members.
However, it would seem that the diversity of cast members is being addressed in this remake as the Avatar: The Last Airbender will be starring Gorden Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Zuko, with Dante Basco (voice actor of Prince Zuko in the animated series) set to also appear, and Daniel Dae Kim to play Fire Lord Ozai.
