Recently, the editor of the Chainsaw Man manga, Shihei Lin, revealed his reaction to seeing a preview of the upcoming anime adaptation, including how he thought that the show would be one for the books. He also reacted to hearing the voice cast for its characters.
What Is All the Hype About the Chainsaw Man Anime?
Chainsaw Man is one of the most anticipated anime of Fall 2022, but in case you’re unfamiliar, it is based on the hit manga of the same name by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It was initially serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from December 2018 to December 2020. After a break, the manga continued with Part 2 which began last July. Unlike the first, Part 2 is serialized in Jump+ and it is also available on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app outside Japan. Though, unlike the initial run, Part 2 seems to have a bi-weekly release schedule based on the releases of the latest chapters.
It’s fair to say that Chainsaw Man is one of Shueisha’s biggest modern manga hits. Even if it’s just over 100 chapters so far, the series already has over 16 million copies in circulation. The series’ story follows Denji who lives a life of poverty as he has incurred the debt of his late father to the yakuza. Soon, Denji is killed by the Yakuza, though he is saved by Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil. This grants him the ability to turn into Chainsaw Man, a human-devil hybrid. Soon, he is contacted by and asked to join the Public Safety Devil Hunters.
Does the Chainsaw Man Anime Live Up to the Hype? Reactions to the Episode 1 Premiere
As for his specific reactions, Lin said that he thinks the anime is of “high quality” and that he believes “it would go down in history.” Lin also praised the show’s voice actors, saying that they are well-suited to the characters that they play. Aside from the high praise by Lin, its first episode has also been praised by those who were able to watch its premiere, be it the Japanese premiere in September or the more recent NYCC 2022 showing. Chainsaw Man will air its first episode on October 11 at 24:00 JST (technically October 12, at 12:00 AM or midnight JST). It will be released shortly after on various streaming sites, including Crunchyroll.
