The caption was meant to reference a quote from one of the comics Ellie (Ashley Johnson) canonically read in Last of Us. It came from Savage Starlight, where the full quote is: ‘To the edge of the universe and back. Endure and survive.’ And when Joel (Troy Baker) didn’t get it at first, Ellie explained where it came from and what it meant, “Savage Starlight. The comic I’ve been reading? It’s what the hero says after a big battle.”
In Naughty Dog’s videogame, Joel often collects ammo, weapons, and easter eggs, but more importantly, ensures that he calls out to Ellie whenever he finds any comic books for her to entertain herself with on their journey. So seeing the quote tease the upcoming live-action adaptation along with its official poster held a very endearing response from fans.
On account of the many game-accurate scenes HBO has been marketing so far, the poster marks their promise of delivering the faithful adaptation soon, with Pedro Pascual’s Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie walking towards the big city. Even the teaser clips have been showing scenes like an accurate CGI of ‘Clickers’ (LOU’s version of zombies) Joel carrying his daughter Sarah, along with Joel telling Ellie, “You have no idea what loss is.”
Last of Us tells the story of Joel Miller, a hardened survivor, who was hired to ‘smuggle’ Ellie to the Fireflies in hopes of finding the cure from her, seeing as she’s immune from the Clickers’ infection. You can watch the trailer below:
