DC fans are mourning following the news that Henry Cavill will not be returning as Superman anymore following the new developments under DC Studios’ ten year plan for the new DC Universe as the plans of James Gunn and Peter Safran doesn’t include him to be wearing the cape. With this, Henry Cavill breaks his silence as he bids farewell to being Superman, maybe this time, for good, “I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.” On Instagram, Cavill added, “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.”
Cavill recognizes the reasons that Gunn and Safran have, “The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.” Cavill thanks everyone who has been with him in his journey as Superman, “For those who have been by my side through the years….we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember… Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there!” Cavill ends his statement with a heart-felt message, “My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”

Henry Cavill first appeared as Superman in Man of Steel in 2013 and he continued to wear the cape until his cameo appearance in Black Adam. Unfortunately, that may probably be the last time Cavill will be seen as Superman. That being said, Henry Cavill still has a lot of projects moving forward as he will star in films like Argylle, The Rosie Project, and the untitled reboot of Highlander. While Cavill would return as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 3, he already passed the torch to Liam Hemsworth to take over the role. As for DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently working on a ten-year slate for the new DC Universe under the merger of Warner Bros. Discovery. The new co-CEOs of DC Studios will be doing everything from scratch and possibly start over with the whole franchise. Thank you, Henry Cavill, for being Superman. Indeed, onwards and upwards!
