Last week, it was confirmed that James Gunn and Peter Safran are starting a new slate for DC and that would mean cancelling previously announced DC Extended Universe sequels like Wonder Woman 3 and Man of Steel 2. This confirmed that Zack Snyder’s projects and the rest of the SnyderVerse are officially over, and unhappy fans began to complain about Gunn’s plans for the DCU. It didn’t take long before the hashtag #FireJamesGunn began trending on social media. It only got worse this week when Henry Cavill shared a statement about Man of Steel 2’s cancellation. The former Witcher actor confirmed that he will not reprise the role of Superman in the superhero’s upcoming project which will focus on a younger version of Clark Kent. People were quick to point out that Henry Cavill had left The Witcher so he can continue playing Superman, only to be dropped by Warner Bros. and DC. Needless to say, fans are putting the blame on James Gunn who is now the DC Studios head.
For now, it is unclear who will take over as the new Superman. Likewise, James Gunn has not yet shared details about the Man of Steel prequel. Hopefully, we’ll get new updates on the project in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more updates on this story. In the meantime, fans are also calling for Henry Cavill to be reinstated as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 4. However, Netflix has yet to share a statement on Cavill’s possible return to the series.
