After its monumental success, The Uncanny Counter has gotten the greenlight for a second season. But when will it be airing? Here’s everything you need to know about The Uncanny Counter Season 2.
Has The Uncanny Counter Been Renewed?
Back in January 2021, OCN and Netflix announced that The Uncanny Counter has been renewed for a second season. Filming, however, is a different story. Soompi shared information from a source that said: “It is true that a second season has been confirmed for ‘The Uncanny Counter.’ However, details such as the filming schedule and broadcast schedule have not been confirmed yet.” Another report from South China Morning Post, shared that the producers of the show plan to bring the cast together to start filming “around September, with the new episodes airing early next year.” But it’s been over a year since we got an update on filming details of The Uncanny Counter. As of this writing, there has not been any official announcement regarding the start date of filming the show. Prior to its renewal, Soompi shared insider reports that OCN did not originally plan to make Season 2. But because of the success of the first season, the production company started to discuss the schedules of the main cast. If this is the case, it’s possible that they haven’t had a chance to make a compromise on filming schedules. According to reports, filming has been postponed since Kim Sejeong (as Do Ha-na) and Jo Byeong-kyu (as So Mun) are still completing their ongoing engagements. Jo Byeong-kyu is reportedly working on two other titles, Even If I Die Again and Millennial Killer. On the other hand, Kim Sejeong landed a role on Business Proposal and a webtoon-based drama entitled Today’s Webtoon. The production promised to commence filming once their schedules line up.
Possible The Uncanny Counter Season 2 Release Date
With the delays in filming, many can’t help but make a prediction on when The Uncanny Counter Season 2 will be released. Based on Season 1’s timeline, production of the show took around two months to complete. This included the first script reading down to the premiere. So it’s possible that fans looking forward to The Uncanny Counter Season 2 release can expect a quick turnaround time as long as filming officially starts. Back when the show was first renewed, there were reports that the filming start date was being considered for September 2021. Unfortunately, there has not been any follow-up details about the show’s progress. This has led many to assume that the show has been put on hold until the schedule of the main cast becomes more feasible to work with.
How Many Episodes are in The Uncanny Counter Season 2?
As of this writing, there is no word yet on the number of episodes that will be available for The Uncanny Counter Season 2. The first season contained 16 episodes, so it’s possible that the second season will follow this format. But since filming has not yet commenced, this is purely an estimate at this time. We also don’t know what OCN has in store for The Uncanny Counter Season 2. To recall, the first season ended on a positive note as So mun was given a chance to say goodbye to the spirits of his parents. But there still a lot of room for the showrunners to explore, especially with the untimely death of Jeong-yeong (played by Choi Yoon-young), who fans hope will be back in Season 2. Not to mention, Mo-tak (played by Yoo Jun-sang) still has to deal with the discovery he made from his past life. Will the Spirits Immigration Officers allow him to get the justice he deserves? We won’t know until Season 2 gets released.
Who Will Be Part of The Uncanny Counter Season 2 Cast?
When the renewal was first announced, fans were excited to see the main cast get together once more. But due to filming schedule conflicts, a source of the show said that “Details are being finalized” regarding the cast. If the original cast regroups for The Uncanny Counter Season 2, we’ll likely see the following again:
Kim Sejeong (as Do Ha-na)
Jo Byeong-kyu (as So Mun)Yoo Jun-sang (as Ga Mo-tak)Yeom Hye-ran (as Choo Mae-ok)
It’s also possible that the actors in the Spirits Immigration Office will be reprising their roles. But this will still be announced once an update is made. In addition to the main cast, there have been reports that Kim Hieora has been confirmed to join The Uncanny Counter Season 2. Even though there’s not enough information available yet, many can’t help but speculate that she will be playing one of the demons in the show.
