It all started when a Twitter user shared a Variety report on its upcoming Power of Young Hollywood 2022 event which confirms Halle Bailey will be in attendance. However, the tweet inaccurately suggests that the publication confirmed Bailey’s casting as Kitty Pryde, a mutant member of the X-Men with the ability to “phase through” solid matter.
Although this would have been exciting considering that people are already looking forward to more members of the X-Men joining the MCU, Halle Bailey has since opened up about the news. Bailey retweeted the aforementioned post with a disclaimer.
This is a bit of a disappointment for fans who have been hoping that Shadowcat is finally ready to join the MCU and will be played by Halle Bailey. Nevertheless, we’re looking forward to Bailey’s current project and some great news from Marvel about the X-Men in the future.
Shadowcat was originally played by Elliot Page in X-Men: The Last Stand back in 2006 and in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. It is still unclear whether Kitty Pryde will be one of the mutants who will debut in the MCU. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
The Little Mermaid will also star Jonah Hauer-King, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina. The Disney film has not yet been given an official release date.
