Prior to Ms. Marvel’s release, fans had an opposing reaction to Kamala’s drastic power change that’s thoroughly different from the source material. Now, it appears that there’s a more major modification to Kamala’s origins that Marvel fans refuse to acknowledge. In the final episode, Bruno tells Kamala that there was a “mutation” in Kamala’s DNA, with X-Men ‘97 soundtrack in the background. Of course, the “mutation” mention isn’t just another irrelevant comment.
In fact, it serves as another confirmation that the fan-beloved X-Men is finally coming soon and that Kamala is the MCU’s first mutant. That’s certainly compelling, however, it completely eliminates Ms. Marvel’s Inhumans origins from the source material.Sadly, it appears that fans can’t accept Ms. Marvel’s revised MCU origins, and blames it entirely on Marvel President Kevin Feige.
In a recent statement from Feige, he unveiled that although they originally adapted from the comics, it still won’t be an “exact translation” of the character. “[Kamala] came about in a very specific time within the comic-book continuity. She is now coming into a very specific time within the MCU continuity. And those two things didn’t match.” The new origins for Khan’s powers looks set to be part of the journey of the show. “What we will learn about where those powers come from, and how they come about, is specific to the MCU,” Feige told Empire. “You will see great comic splash panels in some of our action sequences. If you want big, giant hands and arms, well they’re here in spirit, if not in stretchy, plastic-type ways.”Throughout the six-episode run of Ms. Marvel, fans absolutely foresaw an Inhumans reference and expected that the Disney+ show would somehow keep the character’s comic book origins.
This modification wholly changes not just the character’s origin but also her complete character arc. With this X-Men tease, it appears that Kamala will instead play a vital part in the X-Men’s arrival, and not for the Inhumans.Nevertheless, we still don’t know what Marvel Studios’ plans are for the character. Kamala will return in next year’s The Marvels and will reunite her with her on-screen idol Captain Marvel. Hopefully, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige continue exploring the character’s origins, and would still stick to the source material. All episodes of Ms. Marvel are now available to stream on Disney+.Also read: Ms. Marvel Star Iman Vellani Addresses Hollywood Future After Disney+ Show
