Showrunner Jessica Gao has been sharing interesting details about her original pitch for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. One of the cool things about Gao’s original plan would have followed Emil Blonsky’s lengthy trial that would have taken up several of the show’s nine episodes.
“My pitch for the show is pretty close to the show that you’re watching. All the kind of key foundational elements were there: Emil Blonsky/Abomination was always in the pitch,” Gao told Variety. She also confirmed that Mark Ruffalo was always part of the plan for the series.
“Bruce was always in the pitch,” Gao admitted. “I didn’t know if I could use them. I didn’t know what their relationship was to Abomination anymore. But I thought, ‘you know what? This is what I want – so I’ll just pitch it.’ Thankfully, they liked all of it.”
“When I went in, it definitely skewed a lot more heavily towards Blonsky’s trial,” Gao continued. “In my original pitch, it was an actual trial and it spanned multiple episodes. When we got into the writers’ room, inevitably things change as you’re developing the show and as you start writing. And one thing that we all realized very slowly was none of us are that adept at writing, you know, rousing trial scenes.”
We’re glad to know that Marvel Studios totally agreed with Jessica Gao that we need more of Abomination and the Hulk in the highly anticipated series. For now, it is unclear how many episodes Tim Roth will appear in but we’re hoping that Emil Blonsky will be a recurring character in the show.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will star Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, a lawyer whose life becomes complicated after accidentally cross-contaminating her blood with her cousin Bruce Banner’s. Now that she becomes She-Hulk, Jennifer specializes in cases involving superhumans like herself.
The MCU series is set to premiere on Disney+ on August 18, 2022.
