Speaking recently with ComicBook.com, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu discussed his excitement at the news that Destin Daniel Cretton was tapped to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. “It feels incredible. I obviously learned about the news a little bit before the rest of the world did, but I freaked out. I sent him like forty texts in a row, all exclamation marks. I’m just so incredibly happy for him, he’s so deserving of that spot,” Liu said. Liu went on to offer his insights on why Cretton is a great choice to helm The Kang Dynasty and the potential for the film to be special for the audience since it’s going to be under the supervision of the Shang-Chi director. “What makes him such a special filmmaker, and I’ve said this from the beginning even when we were premiering our movie, is his ability to make a $150 million movie really, really small, in the best possible way,” he continued.
“I’m really looking forward to what he does on that even grander scale of The Avengers because I think it’s easy to maybe get lost in the spectacle of what those movies can be, the vastness and the grandness of it, but if you can maintain the humanity and the human stories, I think that’s what will make a movie memorable and special, and I think Destin’s got it.” The Shang-Chi star concluded his response by seemingly confirming that he will be part of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, “I think he’s got it and I think he deserves this so much. I’m so excited to get to work for him again.” Considering that the film is going to be directed by Cretton, it seems inevitable that Shang-Chi will be one of the main characters and will have a pivotal role. This is likely to be the confirmation that he is indeed going to be part of the film which is exciting for fans who are looking forward to the character’s next MCU appearance.
