Paramount+ announced during yesterday’s Star Trek Day celebration that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Carol Kane has joined the cast of the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for a recurring role. The Oscar-nominated actress will play the role of Chief Engineer Pelia, the Enterprise’s new senior engineering officer. She is described as “highly educated and intelligent” and “suffers no fools.” She also “solves problems calmly and brusquely, thanks to her many years of experience.” You can check the promotional photo of Kane as Chief Engineer Pelia below:

It is exciting to hear that Kane is joining the series since she is a wonderful actress and comedian. She could bring comic relief in the upcoming season and it looks like she will be replacing Hemmer, who died in the ninth episode of the first season. It’s interesting to see what she will bring in the second season and how she’ll work along with the other crew. The series “follows Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock, and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.” The cast includes Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Babs Olusanmokun, and Melissa Navia. Paul Wesley joins the second season as Captain James T. Kirk, the future captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
