Now, they have recruited another talent in its growing ensemble as Deadline has reported that the Emmy-nominated Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae has been tapped to play the male lead in The Acolyte. However, the details regarding his role are unknown as of this time.
Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland is serving as the showrunner of the series. Production is expected to begin in London this late fall. Besides Stenberg, Jodie Turner-Smith has also been confirmed to co-star in the highly-anticipated series.
The series is described as “a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”
Lee’s casting comes as the hit Netflix series that he starred in, Squid Game, became a huge global phenomenon which resulted in him winning several accolades including a SAG Award and Critics’ Choice Award. He is currently nominated for an Emmy and is currently considered the frontrunner to win his category.
This is certainly a piece of exciting casting news since the world has seen Lee’s wonderful talent and this is also a big move in his career as he is slowly becoming an international star. It would be curious to see what kind of role will he play in the series whether he will be on the light or dark side.
