Nia DaCosta recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly along with The Marvels stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani during the D23 Expo. The director explained that the Endgame scene somehow influenced her to work on something similar for Captain Marvel 2. “I, like many women around the world, watched Avengers: Endgame, and had that six seconds of all the Marvel women together. I once had chills, but I was also very annoyed. I was like, ‘Two hours of this, please,’” DaCosta said.

“So it was really nice that they decided to do a team-up movie with three of my favorite heroes, so that’s what was most exciting,” she continued. “I’ve been a huge Marvel fan for the longest time, loved the movies. And so, I always knew I wanted to be a part of the universe.” The Marvels will bring together Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan. This will be the first time that all three characters will appear in a Marvel Cinematic Universe project together. Larson had previously appeared in the final episode of Ms. Marvel when Kamala accidentally exchanged places with Carol. The second Captain Marvel film will also star Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury who is set to lead the upcoming MCU series Secret Invasion early next year. Meanwhile, The Marvels is already scheduled to premiere on July 28, 2023.
