Page launched his own production company in 2021 called Page Boy Productions under a division of Universal Studio Group, with the mission to ‘pursue storytelling which prioritizes safety, representation and intersectional equity in all facets of making film and television.’ Based on what the premise of Backspot is offering so far, Page’s Production studio is off to make a fantastic debut to spread their mission far and wide.

Backspot will be directed by D.W. Waterson, best known for their award-winning web series That’s My DJ, and is set to be produced by Waterson and Jacobs’ company Night is Y, an LGBTQ+ and Indigenous-owned company based in Toronto, Canada. Backspot’s script has been five years in the making and as queer creators, the team is enthusiastic to ‘tell their stories from [their] communities and are so excited to share this film, highlighting fearless queer athletes.’

With Elliot Page’s successes with The Umbrella Academy, his involvement in the indie project is sure to bring victory in no time. There are no other news updates yet on the release date for Backspot, but in the meantime, audiences can watch Page’s work in the Italian documentary Into My Name, a trans-focused film that was released last June.
