What Is Tomo-chan Is a Girl! All About?
Tomo-chan Is a Girl! follows Tomo Aizawa, a high-school girl who is in love with her childhood friend named Junichirou Kubota, with whom she’s recently been reunited. However, Junichirou is oblivious to Tomo’s advances and sees her as just “one of the guys.” The anime, known as Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! in original Japanese, follows Tomo’s comedic attempts to escape the friend zone and make Junichirou understand how she feels. While this sounds like a very simple plot, it could work depending on how it’s handled. And due to how relatable it feels, many young people are likely to have had a similar experience sometime in their teenage life. If you’d like to do more reading in the meantime, Tomo-chan Is a Girl! is based on a four-panel manga series that’s written and illustrated by Fumita Yanagida.
