If you’re wondering whether you should watch the film, this guide will hopefully fill you in with what you need to know about the movie.
When Was No Limit Released by Netflix?
No Limit was released by Netflix on September 9, 2022. It is a movie written and directed by David M. Rosenthal. The original French title of the film is Sous Emprise. As mentioned, it is a sport movie that talks about the beauty of freediving.
Is No Limit Based on a True Story?
No Limit is loosely based on the tragic death of promising freediver, Audrey Mestre. And it is for this reason why a No Limit 2 is unlikely to happen. The creators of the film say that it is a work of fiction and does not represent reaility completely. However, there are things that are similar between the film and what really happened in Mestre’s death. For one thing, Mestre’s husband, Francisco Ferreras, was blamed for her death. This is because he was responsible for Mestre’s air tank lift bag. Unfortunately, it malfunctioned and caused Mestre to die. Ferreras, however, maintained his innocence.
The organization responsible for the event was underfunded, which caused the freediving safety standards to not be followed completely. While there were a couple of safety divers, there was no medical doctor present during the event. When Mestre was brought onshore, she still had a pulse and could have been saved. Sadly, there was no medical team available to perform the necessary rescue. The first movie ended tragically, which is what happened in real life. But in the event that Netflix decides to renew a sequel due to the success of the film, it’s possible that a sequel could get released by the end of 2023. As of this writing, however, there is very little chance of a sequel happening.
What Is No Limit Story About?
The official synopsis on Netflix reads: “An extraordinarily talented young woman finds deep, destructive love with her record-holding freediving instructor in this visually arresting romantic drama.” As mentioned, No Limit is loosely based on the life of Audrey Mestre. In the film, Mestre is portrayed as Roxana (played by Camille Rowe), who left her life in Paris to go freediving in the south of France. There, she meets and falls in love with world champion freediver Pascal Gauthier (played by Sofiane Zermani) who also happens to be her teacher.
Throughout the story of the film, the two discover the beauty of freeddiving and new things about themselves. Despite the deep passion in their romance, the two share a toxic relationship. The two compete in the dangerous sport, where the competitive side of Pascal gets revealed. Not to mention, Pascal starts becoming controlling of Roxana. To make matters worse, Roxana discovers that Pascal has been cheating on her. Instead of fleeing the relationship, Roxana is guilt tripped to staying until things get tragic.
