The Supreme Ruler of the Great Tomb of Nazarick is the Overlord of Death. He is a master of spells and plots, capable of defeating any force attempting to threaten his domain or friends. Except for the penguin butler, Éclair, who has been working hard to become the next Overlord, it will be intriguing to see if anyone tries to betray Lord Ainz. Warning: This article contains certain light novel spoilers that are yet to be shown in the anime.
Who Betrays Ainz in Overlord?
In the first season of Overlord, all of the floor guards swore fealty to Lord Ainz Ooal Gown. They had no one else to turn to, so they all declared their undying devotion to the Supreme Being. After the rest of the 41 guild members dropped and left them all, they saw Ainz as the greatest ruler who had the mercy to stay with them and stand behind the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Lord Ainz Ooal Gown is confident that no one will betray him in Nazarick. He cares for the floor guards just as much as he cares about Nazarick. He not only lavishes them with gifts, but he also compliments them every time they do something deserving of recognition. Among the NPC guardians, Shalltear did not betray Ainz. After being attacked with the world-level item Downfall of Castle and Country, she was unwittingly mind-possessed by Lady Kaire. Hence, her name was red-tagged, and Albedo reported her as a rebel to Lord Ainz. Ainz engaged Shalltear in one-on-one combat to change her settings. After resurrecting Shalltear with 500 million gold, Ainz was able to restore her to her former self. Albedo, likewise, did not betray Ainz. She had, however, committed a sacrilege that some might regard as a complete betrayal. It comes out that Albedo, unbeknownst to Ainz, established a death brigade with the sole aim of hunting and killing the other Supreme Beings. She did this for Ainz’s sake and to seek revenge on the others who have abandoned them all to their fate. However, some fans feel that Albedo is the most likely guardian to turn against Ainz in the end. Hence, she’ll go full yandere on Ainz to make him act like Momonga instead of Ainz. On the other hand, if the measure was to overthrow Ainz’s reign, Sebas did not betray him in Overlord. If we’re talking of betrayal in terms of a conflict of interest, Sebas committed the unthinkable by failing to report Tsuare to Ainz and drawing the notice of the officials. Sebas was determined to keep Tsuare a secret, which put their objective in jeopardy. Sebas had betrayed Ainz’s professed interests in this way. Demiurge, on the other hand, did not betray Ainz in Overlord. He is completely devoted to Ainz, who frequently urges the other guardians to be more watchful of him. Despite his conniving exterior, he genuinely loves everything about Ainz, even if he doesn’t always agree with his treatment of humanity. After all, Demiurge is one of Nazarick’s sharpest demons, second only to Ainz. If he wants to, he can easily betray Ainz. Even at the time of writing, the other guardians, such as Aura and Mare, as well as Cocytus, remain faithful to Ainz in Overlord.
