The show, based on Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel, follows an eternal being called Dream (played by Tom Sturridge). And now that The Sandman Season 2 is happening, it looks like we’ll be introduced to the rest of Dream’s family, more specifically, Delirium. The author teased a fan that he is excited to start looking for an actor to play the role for the second season. Since Mason Alexander Park got his role as Desire in the show by sending a tweet to Gaiman, avid fans can follow this example. Gaiman, however, left behind a message on his Tumblr to hopeful actors who wish to play Delirium:
“As a reminder to everyone out there who wants to act, ‘I’m a lot like Delirium in real life’ is not the hard-sell casting slam dunk many of you seem to think it is. If you’re going to be in Sandman you need to be an actor, you need to have credits, we need to know not only that you’re brilliant but that you’re also reliable, and that you know how to act for TV — can you do the same scene two dozen times, and still say the lines every time as if this is the first time you’ve ever said them? Can you be funny and break people’s hearts at the same time?)”"
Who Is Delirium in The Sandman?
In Gaiman’s graphic novel, Dream has six other siblings. The order of the siblings, from eldest to youngest, include the following:
DestinyDeathDreamDestructionDesireDespairDelirium
The first season introduced us to three of his siblings: Death (played by Kirby Howell-Baptiste), Desire (played by Mason Alexander Park), and Despair (played by Donna Preston). But in the season finale, Dream talked about two other siblings with Desire. The two siblings mentioned were Destiny and Delirium. Desire’s gallery also displays a couple of sigils: a formless, multicolored glob and a book. These two sigils belong to Delirium and Destiny, respectively.
What Is Delirium Like?
As the youngest among the Endless family, the siblings are very protective of Delirium. She was formerly known as Delight and even had a sigil that came in the form of a flower. But when Delight changed and became Delirium, her sigil turned into a glob that changes colors. When she is upset, this glob turns black. Another thing to know about Delirium is that her hair changes regularly. In the comics, she has sported multiple hairstyles and colors; from long to shaven, orange to red, and even multicolored at one time. She appears young, perhaps in her late teens, with one eye colored silver and the other emerald green.
Who Is Playing Delirium in The Sandman Season 2?
For now, Netflix has not yet announced who will be playing the role of Delirium in The Sandman Season 2. The comics portray Delirium as a memorable and charming character so it’s possible that this is something the show will look for when they start casting for her role. Some have suggested Sadie Sink fill the role for Delirium in the second season. But we don’t have any confirmation on that yet.
We’ll update this post once an update becomes available.
